Altay, as the northernmost part of Xinjiang, is rich in wind and solar energy resources. Due to the limited development level and transmission capacity, the local natural resources can not be transformed into “real gold and silver”. Altay power supply company data shows that during the 13th Five Year Plan period, the newly installed generating capacity in Altay is 867000 kW. As of July 18, the installed capacity of Altay power grid is 3.15 million kilowatts, with a surplus of 2.5 million kilowatts, which is suitable for large-scale outward transmission.

In September 2018, State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. invested 1.67 billion yuan to start the construction of Altay zhunbei 750 kV transmission and transformation project, so as to improve the power transmission capacity of Altay region. Altay zhunbei 750 kV transmission line project starts from Kanas 750 kV substation and ends at zhunbei 750 kV substation. The project passes through Buerjin County, Jimunai County, Tacheng area and Buser County in Altay region, with a total length of 341 km and a total of 725 towers.

Since the commencement of the project, State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. has focused on epidemic prevention and control, project quality on the other hand, accelerated the circulation of construction materials, strictly controlled the safety risk points, and ensured the completion of the project as planned. At the end of September this year, the Altay zhunbei 750 kV transmission line project was completed and put into operation. The external transmission capacity of Altay power grid will be increased to 2 million kilowatts, which will thoroughly solve the problems of local power transmission obstruction and wind abandonment.

Altay, as an important tourist attraction in China, accounts for 94% of the total power supply, which is one of the greenest areas in Xinjiang. Data show that Altay power grid installed wind power of 1.41 million kilowatts, hydropower 1.24 million kilowatts, photovoltaic 200000 kilowatts. According to the average utilization hours of various power generation types in China in 2019, these clean energy can generate 7.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, equivalent to burning 2.5 million tons of standard coal, and about 6.75 million tons of carbon dioxide, 212 thousand tons of sulfur dioxide and 18500 tons of nitrogen oxides, which play an important role in energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental protection in Altay region.
