Baidu announced that it will continue to increase investment in new infrastructure fields such as artificial intelligence, chips, cloud computing and data centers in the next decade. It is estimated that by 2030, the number of Baidu Intelligent Cloud servers will exceed 5 million. This investment will better meet the demand for high-performance computing in the intelligent upgrading of industries in all walks of life, provide a strong computing base support for the development of China’s intelligent economy, and also show Baidu’s long-term determination to lay out AI new infrastructure. On the same day, baidu also announced that it expected to train 5 million AI talents in the next five years to provide AI talent guarantee for the development of China’s intelligent economy and intelligent society.
Wang Haifeng, baidu CTO, said that the new infrastructure will become a new driving force for China’s economic development in the coming decades, and the emerging technologies represented by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, 5g, Internet of things and blockchain are its key technical support. As an artificial intelligence platform enterprise, Baidu will help speed up the new infrastructure and promote the faster implementation of artificial intelligence with its accumulated artificial intelligence technical achievements and practical experience for many years, so that all walks of life can obtain unprecedented new momentum.
In terms of computing infrastructure, Baidu announced that the number of Baidu Intelligent Cloud servers exceeded 5 million units in 2030. This means that Baidu’s data center can provide more powerful computing power, which is 7 times the sum of the global top 500 supercomputers, which can easily support the global people’s collective online watching Spring Festival Gala and grabbing red packets. The data and models required by various AI applications will also run more smoothly, so as to support Baidu AI to play a greater innovation ability and socio-economic value.
It is understood that Baidu currently has data centers covering more than 10 regions such as Beijing, Baoding, Suzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Yangquan, Xi’an, Wuhan and Hong Kong. The “ferocious” action of Baidu in the layout of servers and data centers will enable more regions and enterprises to enjoy the intelligent dividends brought by the new infrastructure.
In terms of AI talent training, baidu announced that it plans to train more than 5 million AI talents in the next five years. This stems from the huge AI talent gap under the background of China’s new infrastructure. According to media reports, China’s AI talent gap will reach 10 million by 2025. How to cultivate a large number of AI talents required by the “new infrastructure” has become a difficult problem. In recent years, Baidu has been the main force and advocate of AI talent training in China, and has created a new model of jointly training AI talents with the government, enterprises and universities. So far, Baidu has trained more than 1 million AI talents. Baidu and more than 200 universities such as Fudan University, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of science and technology, Nankai University and China Agricultural University jointly set up in-depth learning and artificial intelligence courses, and trained thousands of AI professional teachers from more than 400 universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University and Harbin Institute of Technology. By setting up training courses for industrial AI people such as Huangpu college and AI fast track, a large number of industrial compound talents who understand both AI technology and AI scene are trained. This time, baidu announced the plan to cultivate 5 million AI talents, taking the lead in carrying the banner of AI talents and alleviating the problem of lack of AI talents.
This month, baidu also announced the industry’s first new AI infrastructure map. Relying on the new AI technology infrastructure including Baidu brain, propeller, smart cloud, chip and data center, baidu is promoting the upgrading of intelligent transportation, smart city, smart finance, smart energy, smart medical treatment, industrial Internet and intelligent manufacturing, and contributing to the intelligent upgrading of thousands of industries.
Wang Haifeng said that Baidu will continue to strengthen its core technical capabilities, continuously integrate multiple resources, build an open source and open ecology, create new competitive advantages for national development and help China embark on a high-quality development path under the new infrastructure strategy.
