Zhihuiping, to put it bluntly, is still TV, and never mentions TV, probably because TV is no longer a necessity on the shopping list of new and new people on the Internet. According to the latest data from TCL, the average daily turn-on rate of TV sets in China has decreased from 70% three years ago to 30%. Consumers over the age of 40 have become the mainstream audience, while after 95, they spend more time on mobile phones (an average of 8.33 hours / day).

With the shift of users’ attention from large screen to small screen, the once booming TV industry has long lost its glory – in 2014, the total sales volume of Chinese TV fell for the first time in 30 years, and in 2017, the sales volume fell by 6.6% year-on-year, the largest decline in history. In the first half of 2019, China’s total sales of TVs were only 21.94 million, while 189 million smartphones were sold in the same period. As users’ time is taken away by mobile phones, TV has become a chicken rib in the living room, and the TV industry is also declining. As a result, the word “TV” seems to be equated with outdated, which is incompatible with the prosperity of the Internet industry.

Then, simply call it smart screen. Instead of redefining TV, it is better to create a new term and make a complete conceptual division with traditional TV. The idea of glory was quickly recognized by peers in the industry. Subsequently, the new product released by TCL was called smart screen, and the new product released by redmi was called smart TV. From smart TV to smart TV, it sounds like a one word difference. What’s the difference?

As we all know, TV access to the Internet began with the network TV set-top box, while the concept of smart TV will rise in 2012 and quickly become a life-saving straw for the TV industry. In addition to the transformation of traditional TV manufacturers, Internet brands represented by Xiaomi, LETV and storm TV have also joined this track. Compared with traditional TV, the biggest difference of smart TV is that it is equipped with open operating system and chip, which allows users to install and uninstall all kinds of application software by themselves.

With the gradual improvement of the mobile phone screen projection function, the small mobile phone screen and the large TV screen began to integrate in the home scene. However, in terms of frequency of use, smart TV is mainly used for chasing dramas and watching films, that is, video and entertainment.

So what is the difference between Huawei smart screen and smart TV? The first difference is the connection function. Huawei smart screen can connect all household peripheral devices together, and users can control household devices with one click of voice. For example, if you say “I’m back” to the glory wisdom screen, it will light the floor lamp; Or, if you lie on the sofa to watch a movie and want to turn down the brightness of the light, just move your mouth; If you don’t need to see the video outside the door, you can talk directly with the people outside the door without seeing the video.

Glory smart screen has richer interaction modes. It supports 6 microphone far-field pickup, just like a large screen version of smart speaker, which can understand your voice instructions without a remote control. Glory smart screen is also equipped with automatic lifting AI camera. At present, it can only be used for taking photos or 1080p high-definition video calls. However, according to the experience of vehicle and machine scenes, this camera may also be used to recognize gesture commands in the future.

Connection and interaction make the smart screen different from smart TV, and these two characteristics are also the most important premise for the realization of aiot (artificial intelligence plus Internet of things). Glory launched the smart screen, which can be seen as asking for the way and weighing whether the smart screen can become the traffic entrance of the smart home scene like the smart speaker. In front of the battle for traffic entrance, the revenue of open screen advertising has to be second. At the glory smart screen press conference, president Zhao Ming announced: “there will be no on-off advertising on the smart screen, and there will be no advertising in the future.” This shows that it will adopt a business model completely different from smart TV and put the user experience first.

Other traditional TV manufacturers have also rapidly launched corresponding smart large screen products. In terms of price, the price of glory smart screen and Pro is 3799 yuan and 4799 yuan. For the same 4K ultra-high definition image quality products with 55 inch screen, the price of glory smart screen is higher than other brands such as Konka, TCL, Hisense and Skyworth, which can not reflect the price advantage. To open the market of glory smart screen, it depends on consumers’ love for Huawei brand and whether the technical strength of its independently developed chip and operating system (Hongmeng OS) is recognized.

According to the financial report for the second quarter of 2019 released by Xiaomi this week, the revenue of Xiaomi’s IOT and consumer products business in the second quarter was 14.944 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 44%. As of June 30, 2019, the number of IOT devices connected to Xiaomi IOT platform (excluding smartphones and laptops) reached 196 million, a year-on-year increase of 69.5%. Among them, the number of users with five or more Xiaomi IOT products increased to 3 million, a year-on-year increase of 78.7%.

Compared with the glory of new entry, Xiaomi has obvious first mover advantage after years of deep cultivation in aiot. In any case, the entry of heavy players is leading the market to more fierce competition. The opening and integration of TV system and various equipment, the establishment of intelligent equipment ecological chain, and the development of application system and software all depend on the long road of technological innovation. For consumers, in this battle for “smart screen”, the competitive market with many players means that users will become beneficiaries, and the innovative achievements of smarter TV technology will quickly move to our families at affordable prices.
