The electrical performance of waterproof connector mainly includes contact resistance, insulation resistance, current and electrical strength.
1. Contact resistance: high quality electrical connectors shall have low and stable contact resistance. The contact resistance of the connector ranges from a few milliohms to tens of milliohms.
2. Insulation resistance: the measurement of insulation performance between electrical connector contacts and between contacts and shell, ranging from hundreds of megohms to thousands of megohms.
3. Electrical strength or withstand voltage: the ability to withstand the rated test voltage between connector contacts or between contacts and housing depends on the gap between circuits (i.e. contact spacing and creepage distance) and the insulating material in the connector.
4. Current: limited by the power receiving connector and its terminating wire.
Other electrical performance and EMI leakage attenuation are to evaluate the EMI shielding effect of the connector, which is usually tested in the frequency range of 100MHz ~ 10GHz.
For RF coaxial connectors, there are electrical indicators, such as characteristic impedance, insertion loss, reflection coefficient and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR).
Due to the development of digital technology, in order to connect and transmit high-speed digital pulse signals, a new type of connector, high-speed signal connector, has emerged. Accordingly, in addition to the characteristic impedance, some new electrical indexes have appeared in the electrical performance. For example, crosstalk, delay, skew, etc.
