The Ministry of industry and information technology issued the notice on promoting the comprehensive development of mobile Internet of things. The notice pointed out that we should strengthen the construction of nb-iot network, continue to deepen the coverage of 4G network, support the development of CAT1, and actively promote the construction of 5g network. Promote the convergence of the price of nb-iot module and 2G module, guide new IOT terminals to migrate to nb-iot and CAT1, and promote the development of mobile IOT applications.

1、 Three directions to promote the innovation and development of mobile Internet of things

The Ministry of industry and information technology emphasizes to promote the innovation and development of the mobile Internet of things around the three major directions of industrial digitization, intelligent governance and intelligent life. In the aspect of industrial digitization, it deepens the application of the mobile Internet of things in industrial manufacturing, warehousing and logistics, intelligent agriculture, intelligent medical and other fields, promotes data collection of equipment networking, and improves production efficiency. In terms of intelligent governance, we should take the energy meter, fire smoke, public facilities management, environmental monitoring and other fields as the breakthrough points to help the continuous improvement of public service capacity and enhance the city’s resilience and ability to deal with emergencies. In terms of life intelligence, promote the application of mobile Internet of animals technology in smart home, wearable devices, children and elderly care, pet tracking and other products.

2、 The number of base stations of mobile Internet of things (nb-iot) is increasing steadily

MIIT has put forward clear requirements for network coverage of nb-iot, and the improvement of network quality will further promote the development of new scenarios of nb-iot. The Ministry of industry and information technology has confirmed that by the end of 2020, nb-iot network will achieve universal coverage in the main urban areas of cities above the county level and deep coverage in key areas. It is expected that the quality of nb-iot network will be further improved. According to the data released by China Academy of information technology, there will be 122 base stations in China’s mobile Internet of things (nb-iot) in 2019, among which China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom will have 34, 43 and 45 base stations respectively. It is estimated that the number of mobile Internet of things (NB IOT) base stations in China will reach 150 by 2020.

3、 Nb-iot users exceed 100 million

According to the data released by Huawei, the number of nb-iot users of the three major operators will exceed 30 million in 2018 and 100 million in 2019. There is a very large market development space in the future. NB IOT can access 5g core network smoothly in the future.

4、 Driven by inertia, Nb IOT scale continues to expand

Nb-iot was established in June 2016. In 2017, China’s three major operators deployed and promoted it. In 2018, single product applications, such as smart water meters, smart electricity meters, smart smoke sensors and gas meters, have used more than one million nb-iot modules, and the chip shipment in the overall market has exceeded 10 million. In 2019, operators can use tens of millions of meters and water meters, Vertical industries generally accept nb-iot technology and industrial chain capabilities, and focus on product function technology superposition. Inertia driven, the scale will continue to expand.

5、 Nb-iot application scenarios burst out one after another

On the demand side, nb-iot has the advantages of low power consumption and wide coverage, and its application scenarios have burst out one after another. According to the 5g + IOT Industry Summit Forum, as of November 2019, the number of Nb IOT water and gas meter connections has exceeded 10 million, the number of intelligent fire fighting has exceeded 4 million (such as intelligent smoke sensor), the number of municipal facilities has exceeded 2 million (such as intelligent street lamp), and the number of intelligent parking has exceeded 1 million. According to the distribution of Nb IOT connections released by China Mobile, smart meters account for 42%; Intelligent smoke sensing accounted for 26%; Environmental protection accounts for 15%.
