On December 26, according to the latest report of market research agency counterpoint, the sales of smartphones equipped with OLED panels will exceed 600 million in 2020, with a year-on-year increase of 46%, and the top five smartphone brands will account for more than 80% of the total sales of OLED smartphones.

Among them, Samsung still maintains a leading position, accounting for 45% of the total sales of AMOLED smartphones in 2019, followed by Apple 16% and oppo 11%. However, several other companies also launched flagship products equipped with AMOLED panels in 2019.

However, it is worth noting that Chinese manufacturers led by Huawei, oppo, vivo and Xiaomi have now adopted OLED panels in their mid-range product portfolio (US $300 to US $500). This is also one of the main reasons for the growth of OLED smartphones in the future.

At present, Samsung displays account for nearly 90% of the OLED panel market. Other brands with LCD fabs, such as BOE, Tianma and csot, are undergoing rapid transformation, but they still need some time for mass production.

Researchers from counterpoint research said that the top five smartphone brands will account for more than 80% of the total sales of AMOLED smartphones. Counterpoint predicts that these brands may further promote AMOLED smartphones to a product portfolio below $200 in 2020. And Apple may also import OLED panels for more products in the next release cycle. These factors will further promote the growth of AMOLED smartphones in 2020.

But at the same time, counterpoint also said that although AMOLED smart phones are the first choice for brands, the growth also depends largely on the capacity of panel manufacturers.

It is reported that at present, Samsung monitors account for nearly 90% of the OLED panel market. Other brands with LCD fabs, such as BOE, Tianma and csot, are undergoing rapid transformation, but they still need some time for mass production. In addition, the demand for AMOLED in other product categories such as wearable devices and TVs will further limit the supply of existing OLED panel manufacturers.
