On February 23, at the 23rd GTI International Industry Summit held in Shanghai, China Mobile jointly released the white paper on 5g wireless technology evolution with nearly 20 domestic and foreign mainstream operators and manufacturers. This is the first time that the industry has jointly released a major document on 5g wireless development and evolution, marking that all parties in the industry have reached a consensus on the technical direction and path of 5g wireless evolution, which is conducive to gathering the strength of the whole industry, jointly defining the r18/19 technology evolution framework for 2025 and beyond, and jointly creating the future of 5g sustainable development.
The white paper first summarizes the four evolution drivers of 5g evolution. That is, to improve the performance and efficiency of the current network and reduce costs, to meet the future development needs of new businesses such as personal Ultra HD and immersive, to meet the diversified needs of thousands of applications, and to deeply integrate with new technologies such as AI.
On this basis, the white paper defines the potential wireless technology directions of 5g wireless evolution, and puts forward four wireless evolution directions and twenty key enabling technologies:
The first major wireless evolution direction is to build intelligent and efficient wireless networks, mainly including the introduction of five key enabling technologies such as native AI to enhance 5g intelligence, improve end-to-end service experience quality collaboration, green energy saving, low-cost coverage and 5g/4g multi network collaboration, and strive to improve the efficiency of 5g networks, especially to support the low-cost and smooth upgrade of 4g/5g networks.
The second largest wireless evolution direction is the existing network performance enhancement technology, which mainly includes five key enabling technologies: uplink capability improvement, large-scale MIMO, urllc enhancement, low-cost Internet of things and mobility enhancement. The purpose is to continue to enhance in terms of embB (enhanced mobile broadband), mmtc (large-scale machine communication), urllc (ultra-high reliability, ultra-low delay communication), etc, In particular, for large uplink services such as machine vision and immersive services such as ar/vr (augmented reality / virtual reality), technologies such as Sul (supplementary uplink) enhancement and multi carrier transmission are introduced to achieve the goals of 1Gbps average transmission rate, ultra-low extreme delay and 99.9999% reliability under large services, so as to continuously improve the performance of 5g network and help improve the network capability.
The third major wireless evolution direction is spectrum efficiency maximization technology, which mainly supports the flexible use of the full band. Four key enabling technologies, including the introduction of more IMT (International Mobile Communication) band applications including 6GHz and millimeter wave, flexible duplex and full duplex, dynamic spectrum sharing, flexible spectrum access and flexible cell, are introduced to reconstruct the spectrum use below 100GHz, Realize the maximization of spectrum benefit under multi frequency and multi standard networking.
The fourth major wireless evolution direction is the new application enabling technologies for new industries, which mainly support some enabling technologies for new industries and applications, including six key enabling technologies such as centimeter level high-precision positioning and fusion sensing, heaven earth integration, high interactive broadband communication, broadcast multicast, multi terminal collaboration and network slicing, expand 5g new capability dimensions, meet the diversified needs of thousands of industries, and help open new business space in the future.
Previously, China Mobile put forward the concept of smart Jane 5g technology. “Wisdom” emphasizes integration as a means, and “simplicity” follows the principle of simplification. By introducing intelligent technology to continuously improve technical efficiency, and by accurately tailoring functions to meet the needs of multiple scenarios, we can not only improve the network performance, but also reduce the network complexity and construction and operation costs, and constantly meet the business development needs of thousands of banks, businesses and public customers. Zhijian 5g technology concept has been widely recognized in the industry. On this basis, China Mobile, with key technologies such as intelligence, big uplink and flexible spectrum as the core, cooperated with global operators and manufacturers to further explore the 5g wireless evolution technology system, and jointly released the white paper on 5g wireless technology evolution with domestic and foreign mainstream operators and manufacturers at the 2021 GTI summit.
Huangyuhong, vice president of China Mobile Research Institute, said that the white paper on the evolution of 5g wireless technology has three highlights: first, it defines new capabilities and new performance goals for the development and evolution of 5g towards 2025. Second, the principle of green, high efficiency and simplicity has been defined for 5g development, so that 5g development can not only have the ultimate performance and all-round ability, but also comprehensively promote network intelligence based on scenarios and customized deployment, reduce investment expenditure, as well as the power consumption of networks and terminals, and continuously optimize business experience. Third, the industry jointly released the white paper on 5g wireless development and evolution for the first time to share China’s experience and wisdom with the world, which will promote the large-scale prosperity and development of 5g in the world.
