Electric power is an important foundation for social, economic and living development. Combined with the objective requirements of China’s resource distribution and productivity layout, China is gradually improving the pattern of “power transmission from west to East”, turning the resource advantages of the western region into economic advantages and providing a solid energy guarantee for the development of the eastern region. In 2017, the country completed 423.5 billion kwh of trans regional power transmission, with a year-on-year increase of 12.1%, and 1.13 trillion kwh of trans provincial power transmission, with a year-on-year increase of 12.7%. The UHV has been built with “eight connections and thirteen direct connections”, and the “three connections and two direct connections” project under construction has been approved. The line length of the UHV project under construction has reached 32000 kilometers, and the transformation (commutation) capacity has exceeded 320 million KVA (kw). The North, middle and South channels of the west to East power transmission channel have begun to take shape.
According to the regional division of the power grid, at present, UHV can be divided into cross regional and intra regional UHV. Two vertical and horizontal networks of Mengxi Tianjin South, Ximeng Shengli and shanghaimiao Shandong have been formed in North China, and huaihu UHV ring network has been formed in East China power grid.
17 trans regional UHV have been put into operation, as follows:
