Changjiang storage plans to double its production this year and increase its monthly production of memory chips to 100000 wafers by the second half of the year, accounting for about 7% of the world’s total production. We are preparing to trial produce 192 layer NAND flash memory chips. This will help Changjiang storage narrow the gap with the world’s advanced manufacturers. It is reported that Samsung Electronics currently produces about 480000 wafers per month, while Meguiar’s monthly production capacity is about 180000 wafers.

The report points out that in addition to increasing production, Yangtze River storage is also speeding up the process of technological development.

The first batch of NAND flash memory chips to be produced

The first batch of 192 layer 3dnand flash memory chips will be trial produced as early as mid-2021, according to people familiar with the matter. However, due to the complexity of advanced technology, it will take time to ensure the quality of mass-produced chips, and this plan is likely to be postponed to the second half of this year.

Changjiang storage announced the completion of the development of 128 layer 3dnand flash memory chip in April last year, and began mass production at the end of last year. Samsung, micron and other manufacturers are still committed to developing 176 layer 3dnand flash chips, and the most advanced mass production products are only 128 layers.

From 2018 to 2020, Changjiang storage has achieved a technological leap from 32 layers to 64 layers and then to 128 layers. In the memory chip market with highly concentrated market share, the mass production and listing of domestic memory chips are of great significance to fill the gap of domestic storage. Specifically, the production lines of Changjiang storage and Hefei Changxin are in the process of capacity climbing, and there is still a large capacity space. In the process of capacity expansion, domestic semiconductor equipment manufacturers will be strongly promoted to release their performance.

It is understood that domestic customers of Changjiang storage include Lenovo and Huawei.

It is worth mentioning that Changjiang storage has shaken the global NAND flash market. When Intel sold its NAND flash business to sk Hynix in 2020, some market observers believed that the move was a decision made by the US chipmaker to avoid fierce competition that might come from Changjiang storage. In addition, Changjiang storage is also an important driving force for China to establish its own semiconductor industry chain.
