From November 19 to 21, the 2020 China Mobile global partners conference was held in Guangzhou. In the first anniversary of 5g commercial operation, China Mobile has shown the style of leading the group. In terms of the number of 5g base stations, the scale of 5g users, and the 5g industry ecology, China Mobile has become a leading player in the industry. This conference can be regarded as a “year-end inventory” of the achievements of China Mobile and even China’s 5g industrial ecology in the past year.

During the conference, Bo Yanmin, vice president of ZTE and general manager of Ran products, revealed ZTE’s 5g “report card”. 5g ranks second in market share, leading overseas suppliers by a large margin; 5g base stations have delivered more than 250000 stations in China, 100% of which have completed the arrival and installation of 5g phase II equipment, with excellent network quality. At the b-end, 86 5g innovative application scenarios have been explored jointly with operators and more than 500 partners in more than 15 industry fields.

ZTE’s 5g report card is excellent. It can be seen from the third quarter report of ZTE that, on the one hand, 5g business has promoted the strong growth of overall performance; on the other hand, ZTE’s investment in 5g R & D in the first three quarters has reached 10.791 billion yuan, accounting for 14.56% of its revenue, which has brought about continuous improvement in competitiveness. “Black technology” behind 5g boutique network

Behind quantity is quality. ZTE’s 5g base stations ranked second in terms of delivery volume, and continued to build 5g boutique network in terms of network. According to Bai Yanmin, taking China Mobile as an example, ZTE has contracted to build 5g networks in 146 cities in 29 provinces, and has all completed the SA version upgrade. The network experience of benchmark area reaches 1Gbps, and that of national boutique area exceeds 800Mbps, and the grid acceptance rate reaches 100%. In Guangzhou, where the conference is located, ZTE also joined hands with China Mobile to build a 5g boutique network.

“Wireless communication is a high-tech threshold and always in the iterative evolution of the industry.” Bo Yanmin said that behind the boutique network are a number of key 5g technology breakthroughs of ZTE. “Last year, we demonstrated 5gaau products in a disassembled way, showing our rich accumulation in the core technology of massive MIMO, and telling the root cause behind the high performance of 5g network. This year, we have launched a series of innovative solutions to help operators save construction and maintenance investment, improve resource utilization, and build 5g networks with the best performance and price from multiple dimensions, such as optimizing experience, improving efficiency, and simplifying operation. “

For example, Bai Yanmin: first, SSB1 + X three-dimensional coverage can increase the vertical coverage rate of high-value commercial buildings by 30% on the basis of ensuring the horizontal coverage. With the self optimization of AAPC network, the efficiency is tens of times higher than that of manual mode. The second is the EDAs scheme, which makes use of the old DAS system to reduce costs and increase efficiency for customers and revitalize existing assets; the third is the powerpilot scheme, which further introduces AI algorithm on the basis of traditional carrier / Channel / symbol shutdown and deep sleep, which can greatly reduce network energy consumption.

EDAs is particularly worth mentioning. In 2020, 5g wide coverage will be initially completed in major cities in China. With the promotion of 5g business and the proliferation of users, it is more and more urgent to improve 5g indoor coverage. As more than 80% of the existing passive room subsystems are single channel DAS, they can only support single stream, which will lead to serious user experience limitation and difficult to meet the 5g business requirements. The EDAs scheme makes use of different channels of one or more rrus to jointly receive and transmit, so that the traditional room has the ability of multi antenna receiving and transmitting, realizes the traditional room to support 5g multi stream, and improves the user perception. The scheme has been commercialized in more than 10 provinces and cities, such as Guangzhou, Beijing, Shandong and Zhejiang, and the downlink pull rate has generally increased by more than 40%, significantly improving the 5g performance.

“These unique innovative solutions in the industry are based on ZTE’s deep R & D accumulation and in-depth understanding of the needs of network and operators. They have been tested and commercialized in many provinces, and have been widely recognized by customers.” Bai Yanmin said.

Precision cloud network enabling industry

Different from previous generations of wireless technology, 5g’s more important value is to face the broad industry market, combine with new information technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence and big data, and promote the economic and social digital transformation. Operators have taken action, such as China Mobile launched the “5g private network sailing plan”, China Telecom released the “5g customized network”.

5g industry application is a brand new format, equipment suppliers can not only provide equipment. Bo Yanmin pointed out that in the past year, ZTE has always been committed to building an ecology based on accurate cloud and determined network, providing 5g end-to-end connection, MEC edge computing, end-to-end network slicing and other capabilities, as well as five energy platforms such as video cloud, industrial Internet of things, robot AI, end-to-end security and high-precision positioning. This year, ZTE officially put forward the positioning of “road builder of digital economy”.

“Previous wireless networks mainly focused on TOC consistency requirements, belonging to the plain market; however, the fragmentation of industry market requirements is very obvious, and the requirements of different industries and even different scenarios of the same industry are not the same. At the same time, large and medium-sized enterprises generally have the requirements of multi technology heterogeneous collaboration, low TCO, end-to-end service guarantee, high security, independent control and so on. ” Bai Yanmin said that for industry customers, they need not only comprehensive solutions with high cost performance, but also customized capabilities. The ultimate goal is to solve problems and create value.

Facing 5g industry applications, ZTE also has a lot of technological innovation. If the road is long, the road will come

5g is the first commercial and leading technology in the field of wireless communication in China. As there is not much experience to learn from, the deployment and commercial use of 5g has aroused a lot of doubts in the industry and the public. Its ambition of enabling thousands of lines of business has encountered many challenges, such as the concern about base station density and equipment power consumption still exists, the profitable business model has not yet formed scale, and the market return and cost investment of operators and related industries are still unclear.

In the past year, with the application of 5g industry entering the deep water area and achieving one result after another, the doubt is gradually dispelling. Bai Yanmin stressed that the value of 5g lies in the fact that the industry applications that were not well experienced or could not be realized due to the limitation of network capability will accelerate their maturity and be popularized on a large scale in the 5g era. Driven by the new 5g infrastructure, China’s 5g network has been built on a large scale, and SA’s network architecture has made China’s network become a fertile soil for the application and development of 5g industry from quantity to quality.

“By the end of this year, China will account for 70% of global 5g connectivity, more than all other countries combined.” In Bai Yanmin’s view, China has all the industries in the United Nations Industrial Classification, the largest digital consumer group in the world, and a huge economy. All these are fertile ground for 5g development. ZTE’s exploration and practice of 5g industry application in China will become a global experience that can be used for reference and replicated, and drive 5g’s global commercial success.
