Recently, at the Global 6GHz Conference, GSMA, Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, ZTE, ETNO (European Telecommunications Network Operators Association), ECTA (European Competitive Telecommunications Association), Elisa, ETIsalat, Telia, Telefónica, EDF, China China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, Datang, OPPO, STC, vivo, Zain, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Zhanrui and other 23 companies and organizations jointly issued a statement: support the use of 6GHz as mobile broadband spectrum and jointly promote WRC-23 6GHz IMT The development of spectrum research work together to develop and build an end-to-end industrial chain.
Joint Statement: Supporting the Use of 6GHz as IMT Spectrum
As an effective way to provide broadband wireless connection, the International Mobile Telecommunications System (IMT) has covered a population of 60% from the mobile phone in the 2G era, to the mobile Internet in the 3G era, to the mobile broadband interconnection in the 4G era, and now in the 5G era. more than 100 million, and make important contributions to global economic growth and social development. As a new generation of mobile communication technology, 5G can continuously improve personal mobile broadband experience, and together with cloud, computing and AI technologies, promote industry digitization and promote global economic growth.
However, according to ITU’s forecast, by 2030, mobile consumption data traffic will increase by more than 30 times. At the same time, wide-area connection application scenarios such as the Internet of Vehicles will also appear. Globally, 5G and its evolution will require more IF spectrum resources, because it can provide the best balance of capacity and coverage, and control the network construction cost of operators. As an intermediate frequency spectrum with a continuous bandwidth of 700MHz to 1200MHz, 6GHz will be the best candidate frequency band for providing wide-area and large-capacity connections. The work on 6GHz IMT identification and research in ITU-R has started, and the 3GPP 6GHz standard work is also progressing in an orderly manner.
In order to promote the rapid, orderly and healthy development of the 6GHz mobile industry chain, the release of this joint statement aims to call on countries around the world to increase their attention and investment in 6GHz IMT spectrum research, and to build unified 5G terminals, chips, networks, and instruments. and other end-to-end industry chains to achieve global spectrum coordination, seamless global roaming and sharing of economies of scale.
