Siemens Digital Industries Software has recently expanded its integrated circuit (IC) physical verification platform, Caliber, with a series of electronic design automation (EDA) early design verification functions, which can “shift left” the physical and circuit verification tasks, in the middle of the design and verification process. Identify, analyze, and resolve complex IC and system-on-chip (SoC) physical verification issues at an early stage, helping IC design teams and companies accelerate tapeout.
Identifying and resolving issues earlier in the design cycle not only helps compress the overall verification cycle, but also creates more time and opportunity to improve the final design quality. Siemens uses certified signoff standards to provide tuned check support for early-stage analysis, verification, and optimization strategies, helping design companies simplify the design process, improve designer efficiency, and shorten time-to-market.

New features of the Caliber platform include:
• Caliber RealTIme Custom and Caliber RealTIme Digital software tools. These tools provide online, signoff-quality Caliber DRC for custom, analog/mixed-signal, and digital designs. The Caliber RealTIme interface directly invokes the Caliber analysis engine, runs a foundry-certified signoff Caliber rule set, and provides immediate feedback and compliance recommendations for design violations, helping to speed up design and improve the quality of results. Caliber RealTIme Digital now enables in-line fill with the Caliber Yield Enhancer SmartFill feature, allowing designers to obtain foundry signoff-quality fill directly from within the design platform, while Caliber RealTime Custom adds the ability to automatically track DRC across multiple regions, Ability to fix, track and review multiple edits simultaneously.
• Caliber nmDRC-Recon models in Caliber RealTime Digital provide intelligent, automated analysis of immature and incomplete designs across blocks, macroblocks, and full-chip layouts, finding and fixing bugs early in the design and verification process Significantly affects the physical layout. In addition to the speed advantages and debug advantages for designers already provided by the Caliber nmDRC-Recon model, Siemens has now added the flexibility to “gray-box” immature cells and modules while still maintaining control over the connections. DRC checks are performed on interfaces of adjacent modules or higher metal layers. The “grey box” feature avoids irrelevant DRCs, further improving execution speed and designer’s debugging efficiency, enabling up to 50% faster operation than using nmDRC-Recon alone.
• Caliber nmLVS-Recon software for intelligent, automated circuit verification analysis of immature and incomplete designs. With Caliber nmLVS-Recon software, designers can efficiently perform short isolation (Short Isolation) to find circuit errors. Short-circuit extraction mode in Caliber nmLVS-Recon requires no changes to design entry or foundry rule sets, only the short-circuit extraction step of Caliber nmLVS is performed, LVS execution speed is increased by up to 30 times, allowing designers to Complete multiple iterations of validation.
The Caliber nmPlatform tool suite is unique in the EDA industry, integrating a variety of major IC design and layout implementation tools. This seamless integration allows design teams to easily run Caliber tools at the intellectual property block (IP), functional block/macroblock, full-chip level from within their custom design or place-and-route (P&R) design environment.
