Renesas Electronics, Elinks, and China-India Cloud Collaborate to Launch ProMe Series Heterogeneous SoMs

With the rapid iteration of electronic information technology, from AI calculation to signal processing to high-speed transmission, every link poses challenges for engineers to develop. The ProMe series of heterogeneous SoM products embodies the advanced devices of Renesas Electronics and Yilingsi, and also combines the experience accumulated over the years in the cloud of China and India. The launch of the ProMe series of heterogeneous SoM products can be said to be eye-catching. For engineers, the ProMe series of heterogeneous SoMs have brought new value.

In terms of hardware, ProMe series SoM has been better optimized and designed in terms of power consumption, size, ecology and flexibility. Engineers only need to customize development according to their own needs, that is, they only need to define the required requirements on the motherboard. interface can be used. The ProMe series of heterogeneous SoMs are based on the combined architecture of Renesas MCz and analog programmable logic, and adopt the Elings programmable gate array to realize system management, version loading, process initialization, system monitoring, interface conversion, and data processing. At present, the dedicated hardware library of ProMe series SoM has more than 20+ IP cores available.

In terms of software, in addition to FPGA programming and ARM processor operating system, the future ProMe software package also includes various App applications and deep neural network engines. The ProMe series of heterogeneous SoMs will replace the traditional “chip first” development strategy, which will save a lot of development time and bring new value.

Core devices in the ProMe family of heterogeneous SoMs

The ProMe series of heterogeneous SoMs are highly flexible, scalable, and feature small size and low power consumption. For these features of the ProMe series of heterogeneous SoMs, Renesas Electronics provides corresponding core devices – RX651, GreenPAK and Clock Generator .

RX651, as the control center of the ProMe series of heterogeneous SoMs, has a high performance of 520CoreMark running at 120MHz, which is more efficient than the ARM M4 core. At the same time, the RX651 has a huge storage space inside, so that the startup file of the Yilingsi FPGA can be directly put into the RX651, which saves the external storage space and can also perform encryption protection. In terms of power consumption, the standby current of the RX651 is only 3.3uA, and the startup speed can reach 0.6ms from standby to full-speed operation. The 4.5*4.5mm package also saves a lot of space, which is conducive to the smaller size of the ProMe series of heterogeneous SoMs.

GreenPAK brings full flexibility as a programmable analog and digital hybrid IC, allowing circuit customization in minutes to integrate the functionality of general-purpose discrete devices into its integrated chip. GreenPAK’s lowest quiescent current below 0.5uA and ultra-small package have obvious advantages in reducing the number of components on the board, saving PCB space and reducing product power consumption.

The clock generator used on the ProMe series has 3 channels, and Renesas supports up to 24 channels of clock output on one chip and configures multiple output types. In addition, with the development of 5G, the jitter of the clock generator is becoming more and more important. The jitter as low as 150fs ensures the accuracy of the system clock.

Yilingsi provides ultra-low power consumption and small size Trion series FPGA for ProMe series SoM. Trion series FPGA supports VCC selection of each bank voltage, and GPIO interface level is flexibly adapted. The clock also supports optional, you can choose to provide external PIN or onboard crystal oscillator. Trion series FPGAs reserve JTAG interface (support online Debug), 12 pairs of LVDS interfaces (8 pairs of TX and 12 pairs of RX) and 12 GPIOs (extended peripherals).

The biggest feature of Yilingsi series FPGA is power consumption. The traditional FPGA large particle unit constitutes complex switching switches and interface circuits. At the same time, the device requires 12-14 layers of metal layers for wiring, which consumes a lot of power. The architecture adopted by the Yilingsi series FPGA adopts small particle units, which simplifies the switching of switches and interfaces, and only requires 7 layers of metal layers for wiring. According to Yilingsi, the Yilingsi series FPGAs save more than half of the power consumption compared to the benchmark products. Ultra-low power consumption also brings more competitiveness to the ProMe series of SoMs.

ProMe Series Heterogeneous SoM Future Development

As a collection of core devices and technologies from Renesas Electronics, Elinks, and China-India Cloud, the ProMe series of SoMs can help users reduce the difficulty of hardware development, save development time, and help customers complete product upgrades faster when designing products. iterate. At present, the ProMe series of SoMs have been applied in AIoT and PC to IO modules.

In the future, the ProMe series SoM that integrates more high-performance devices from Renesas Electronics and Elinsys will be fully applied in AI-TinyML, machine vision, Camera module and other fields, and will be embedded in various terminal systems by taking advantage of modularity.
