Amd launched the sharp dragon 3000 series processor on July 7 last year, using the 7Nm zen2 architecture. The single core and multi-core performance can reach or exceed the core series, so it has been selling well. The 12 core and 16 core Ruilong 9 were out of stock before, but amd suddenly began to reduce its price today.
According to reports, AMD’s sharp dragon 3000 series processor began to reduce prices in the U.S. market. Among them, the sharp dragon 93900x dropped from $599.99 to $449.99, a decrease of 25%. Other models have also reduced prices to varying degrees. The most popular sharp dragon 93950x has dropped from $749.99 to $729.99.
The price of the sharp dragon 93900x dropped from 4299 yuan to 3799 yuan, a decrease of 500 yuan. Although the decline is not as obvious as that in the United States, it also shows sincerity. After all, the price of this processor has been rising due to shortage of goods.
Judging from the performance of the Chinese and American markets, this price cut should be the official price adjustment half a year after the release. The core reason for the price reduction is not hard to guess, that is, the capacity of AMD’s 7Nm sharp dragon 3000 processor has been increased.
At the financial report meeting at the end of January, amd also talked about TSMC’s capacity again. CEO Su Zifeng said that the OEM partner TSMC had given amd good support in the first few months of the 7Nm capacity ramp up, and AMD will have a significant growth in 7Nm in 2020.
TSMC also attaches great importance to AMD’s cooperation, which is an important cooperation for them to enter the high-performance HPC market. However, in 2019, TSMC’s 7Nm production capacity is very tight. The mobile processors of apple and Huawei’s two major customers are given priority, and the shipment volume of 10 million class is far higher than that of AMD. As a result, TSMC extended the order delivery period of 7Nm to six months last year, and if you want to place an order, you have to book it half a year in advance.
After entering 2020, the peak shipment peak of apple and Huawei has passed (Q3 and Q4 are the peak of smartphone delivery), and TSMC also increased 7Nm capacity by additional investment last year, so more capacity can be arranged for AMD in the two months.
As apple and Huawei will switch to 5nm technology this year, AMD’s 7Nm production capacity will be guaranteed in 2020. It was previously reported that TSMC’s 7Nm production capacity will reach 140000 Wafers / month this year, and AMD can win 30000 chips / month, accounting for 21%, surpassing apple to become TSMC’s first 7Nm customer.
In addition, AMD will launch zen3 processor with 7Nm EUV process in the second half of this year, which is also the exclusive OEM of TSMC, so the production capacity problem will not be as tense as last year.
