In the last decade, flat panel displays have made great progress. Manufacturers have been working hard to create the next generation technology with clearer image and faster response. After the rise of OLED, micro LED technology also followed. However, what this article wants to introduce to you is the latest improvement brought by Samsung to its own qled display screen – to achieve a longer service life by introducing self luminous technology.

Samsung has developed self luminous qled display technology to achieve longer service life

At present, Samsung’s qled display technology for its own TV is still based on the combination of LED backlight + quantum dot display panel. This film can emit more solid colors than traditional LEDs, but the quantum dots themselves do not emit light.

In contrast, OLED pixels themselves can emit light, so it can turn off a single pixel rather than the whole lighting area. The good news is that according to a paper published by Samsung, qled is also expected to introduce this feature.

The team led by Dr. eunjoo Jang and yo ho won has found an improved and more environmentally friendly manufacturing method of self luminous qled.

Previously, the impressive qled display used cadmium materials harmful to human body. However, in the future, Samsung will make full use of qled manufacturing technology based on Indium Phosphate formula. Although the performance is not very brilliant, it is more environment-friendly.

It is reported that the research team has improved the structure of Indium Phosphate diodes by building a shell around it that can prevent oxidation and shortening the shell. Experiments show that the efficiency is improved by 21%, The diode life is extended by 1 million hours.

If this new self luminous qled technology is put into commercial use, consumers can enjoy an alternative display scheme with bright and vivid image quality comparable to OLED, but with faster response. Unfortunately, Samsung did not comment on the future development path of qled.
