Tokyo, December 9, 2020 – Renesas Electronics Group (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solution provider, announced today that it will launch a new 32-bit ra4m3 microcontroller (MCU) product group and expand its ra4mcu product family. Ra4m3mcu adopts arm based on armv8-m architecture ® Cortex ®- M33 core, which can increase the running speed to 100MHz. Ra4m3 product group has high performance, armtrustzone ® Technology, Renesas secure encryption engine and scalable storage make it easy to develop secure and reliable IOT edge devices for low-power applications such as security, metering, industrial and HVAC.

Ra4m3 product group is designed for low-power IOT applications with high performance, strong security and larger storage space. The new MCU combines TrustZone technology with Renesas enhanced security encryption engine, enabling customers to realize the function of security chip in various IOT designs. The secure encryption engine includes multiple symmetric and asymmetric encryption accelerators, advanced key management, secure product lifecycle management, power analysis attack resistance and tamper detection.

When running coremark algorithm in flash memory, the power consumption of ra4m3mcu is as low as 119 μ A / MHz, power consumption as low as 1.6mA in standby mode, standby wake-up time of 30 µ s. This is crucial for IOT applications that run outdoors for a long time. For memory intensive applications, designers can combine Quad SPI and SD card interface with MCU on-chip memory to increase storage capacity. Background running and flash bank swap are very suitable for running memory optimized firmware updates in the background. The large capacity on-chip RAM with parity / ECC function also makes ra4m3mcu an ideal choice for security oriented applications. Ra4m3mcu also has a variety of integrated functions to reduce BOM costs, including capacitive touch sensing, up to 1MB on-chip flash memory, and analog, communication and memory connected peripherals.
