Beijing, China, June 2, 2022 – Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced the introduction of an AUTOSAR-compliant hybrid drive for designers of electric vehicle (EV) on-board battery management systems (BMS). Program (CDD) software module. The new software works in conjunction with the industry-acclaimed Renesas ISL78714 Li-Ion battery management IC to accelerate the design of next-generation systems and optimize performance.



The new CDD software is designed to work with the Renesas BMS successful portfolio reference design hardware kit, which includes the ISL78714 IC and the RH850/P1MMCU. The CDD includes the configuration and integration of the required Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL) modules provided by Renesas for the RH850 MCU to build a complete low-level software solution for battery cell voltage acquisition and temperature measurement, and to control the ISL78714 voltage equalization function. Configurable parameters determine the number of cells in the BMS system and the desired battery cell data collection rate.



The CDD software features a simple but full-featured API that allows end-user applications to receive battery cell measurements in real-time. The software interface and protocol management required to operate the ISL78714 are built into the CDD software and run on the underlying SPI, GPIO and General Purpose Timer (GPT) drivers included in the MCAL module. CDD software provides users with a practical framework to simplify their software design, allowing them to focus more on application function development.



The new ISL78714 CDD software was developed following the ISO26262 ASIL D (the highest level of automotive functional safety standard) development process. The RH850/P1M and MCAL modules also meet ASIL D requirements. As a successful template for ASIL D software development, ISL78714 CDD software is of great reference value. Users who need assistance in design can contract with Renesas partner TATA Elxsi to develop and optimize their systems.
