By using this conversion chip, notebook, motherboard, base and other manufacturers can use graphics chips that only support the output of DisplayPort 1.4 to manufacture devices that support the output of the next generation of HDMI.
At present, some high-end TVs have reached 8K resolution, and the interface used can accept HDMI 2.1 signal, but it is not marked as HDMI 2.1 during publicity, because it has not passed the certification of HDMI forum. When the certification plan of HDMI 2.1 is launched, manufacturers can officially increase the support for HDMI 2.1 through software update. The manufacturer of HDMI cable will also release the connection cable of ultra-high speed HDMI (48g) at the same time.
However, at present, no GPU can output HDMI 2.1 signal, and even Intel’s latest 10th generation ice lake does not mention its support. Therefore, the market urgently needs an adapter or adapter to connect these 8K TVs equipped with HDMI 2.1 interface and PC devices capable of outputting DisplayPort 1.4. This is the background of the emergence of Realtek rtd2173 chip.
Rtd2173 chip can convert DisplayPort 1.4 signal into HDMI 2.1 signal, with a maximum resolution of 3840 × [email protected] Or 7680 × [email protected] , just one cable. It should be noted that the maximum bandwidth of DP 1.4 using hbr3 is 32.4gbps, which is sufficient for 8kp60 signals using video stream compression 1.2 (display stream compression 1.2) technology.
Meanwhile, the maximum bandwidth of HDMI 2.1 is 48Gbps, so DSC 1.2 is not required to transmit 8kp60 signals.Realtek’s rtd2173 converter has been successfully made into a chip. After it passes the certification of HDMI forum, PC, adapter, base, adapter, wire rod and other manufacturers can use the chip to manufacture various related products.
