Following Qualcomm’s implementation of the first generation of ultrasonic off screen fingerprint recognition on the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, Qualcomm announced that the second generation of ultrasonic off screen fingerprint recognition technology is on the way to research and development, or will be officially launched in the second half of this year.

It is understood that the identification area of the second generation ultrasonic off screen fingerprint identification technology will be greatly increased: from the original 9x4mm (36 square mm) to the second generation 8x8mm (64 square mm), the identification area will be nearly doubled, and the thickness will remain at 200 μ m。

Qualcomm said that the second-generation ultrasonic fingerprints are no longer made of silicon chips, which greatly improves the output and reduces the manufacturing cost. Other technologies include ASIC (special circuit driver) and FPC flexible circuit board. At present, the technology has been mature, and it is highly possible to launch this technology on Samsung’s flagship Galaxy note10 in the second half of the year.
