Qcomm technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of qcomm incorporated, announced at awe that it will join hands with global operators, smartphone manufacturers and XR viewer manufacturers to deliver XR viewer products to consumers and enterprise users within next year. Since qcomm technologies announced the launch of XR viewer, which can be connected to 5g smart phones, 15 operators around the world, including China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, EE, KDDI, KT Telecom, LG uplus, NTT DoCoMo, orange, SK Telecom, Softbank, Telefonica, Verizon and Vodafone, plan to launch XR viewer Viewer and put it into commercial use to provide unprecedented immersive experience through 5g technology.
As a portable head mounted display device, the XR viewer can be connected to the powered snapdragon via USB type-c ™ 855 or snapdragon 865 mobile platform. 5g supports high bandwidth and low latency, which is very important for high-quality XR. XR viewer will open a new generation of immersive experience with the help of 5g smartphone. Under the joint action of XR and 5g, the way the world connects, communicates and consumes content will be changed. Consumers’ favorite smartphone applications can be presented in front of their eyes through ar experience, or holographic remote presentation can be realized through virtual collaboration platform to completely change the form of work conference.
Through the qcomm? XR glasses adaptation program, qcomm technologies tests the performance of the XR viewer and confirms the compatibility between the XR viewer and the smartphone, so as to ensure that users can enjoy a seamless experience. The program includes two types of certification for smart phones and XR viewer, which can support OEM manufacturers (including smart phone manufacturers and XR viewer manufacturers) to verify the adaptation between multiple smart phones and multiple viewers without one-to-one adaptation. Qcomm XR glasses adaptation program includes:
Six DOF head tracking performance of viewer and smartphone; viewer display calibration verification; motion to photo latency verification of viewer and smartphone moving to display; power consumption and heat dissipation test of viewer and smartphone; interoperability between viewer and smartphone.
Several manufacturers of XR viewer, such as 3glasses, iqiyi, nreal, oppo, Panasonic, Pico and Yingchuang technology, are in the process of certification. After passing the certification, they will rapidly deploy devices equipped with snapdragon mobile platform in the next few months. Consumers and users can clearly grasp the compatibility and adaptation performance of smart phones and XR viewer through the logo of “qcomm XR optimized”. At present, mobile phone manufacturers including ASUS, black shark, one plus, oppo, hammer technology, vivo and ZTE plan to provide users with a new XR experience through 5g smart phones supporting viewer, and more OEM manufacturers will join in one after another.
As 5g expands globally, the XR ecosystem is ready to combine superior cellular connectivity, high-quality hardware and top-notch XR devices. No matter indoor or outdoor, XR experience is expected to achieve large-scale expansion in the world. At the same time, we expect more people to experience the new “extended reality” next year.
