So is there more room for the development of 3D structured light and TOF time-of-flight method on mobile phones? However, the technical characteristics are mainly reflected in the advantages of face recognition, but there are no more application scenarios. The working principle of TOF time-of-flight method is different. It calculates the depth through the phase difference of the reflected light received by the TOF chip. It only needs to ensure the correct phase reception, lower requirements for assembly accuracy, easier production and will not be limited by production capacity.
The most important thing is that TOF has lower requirements for the size and area of the measured object, high ranging accuracy, long ranging and fast response. Compared with 3D structured light, TOF technology emits not speckle, but area light source. Therefore, the light information of TOF will not be greatly attenuated within a certain distance. Its advantage is that it has a longer working distance and is suitable for the rear lens of mobile phone.
Compared with two-dimensional images, TOF can obtain richer positional relationships between objects by calculating distance information, and distinguish foreground and background. After further processing, it can be applied to 3D modeling, AR games, AR applications, somatosensory games, online ar shopping and trial wearing. For example, Huawei P30 Pro adopts post TOF to realize more applications through 3D modeling.
