On October 14, 2021, China — STMicroelectronics (st for short; NYSE Code: STM), the global semiconductor leader serving the field of multiple electronic applications, today announced that it had cooperated with Paco rabanne to develop Paco rabanne’s new men’s perfume phantom. Phantom perfume is packed in a uniquely designed networking bottle, which can be connected to Paco rabanne’s “phantom universe” network community through the embedded NFC (near field communication) tag IC (integrated circuit) installed in the bottle cap. Most smart phones support this popular non-contact communication technology.

The online access method of PAC Universal’s stbane is realized through the semiconductor community. The label chip is encapsulated in the innovative cap of phantom perfume. This bottle cap with novel design meets the technical and aesthetic requirements of phantom perfume of PaCO rabanne. It is the result of close cooperation between Italian French semiconductor, Paco rabanne, Paragon ID, an expert in label inlay, and VPI (faiveleyplastbeauty), an expert in injection molding, decoration and packaging.

The four partners jointly study how to embed the general NFC certified type 5 label chip and customized micro antenna that maximize the working volume and communication distance into the space limited perfume bottle cap to solve the negative impact of the parasitic effect of the shiny chrome plated metal finish on the connection performance. There is no need to install a battery in the bottle cap to use NFC, because the label can obtain electric energy from the non-contact electromagnetic field between the label chip and the connected device (usually mobile phone or tablet).

Yvon gourdou, application and marketing director of EMEA area of Italian French semiconductor microcontrollers and digital chips, said: “Paco rabanne invited us to help them develop a groundbreaking use case: to develop an online, user-friendly and sustainable luxury perfume bottle for a new perfume. On the basis of a standard product and a proven design method, we have worked with our partners to build an innovative solution, which can now be used by global consumers and luxury brands. Phantom perfume bottle integrates cutting-edge modern design and can be The concept of continuous development and repeated filling system integrate our st25tv NFC label IC in a challenging environment to provide users with friendly networking services. “

Fabien Leclercq, packaging development manager of PaCO rabanne, said: “phantom is innovative in methods, has a sense of future in the appearance of perfume and bottles, brings users a new dimension and a way to the digital world, and enables them to make new friends. Our own luxury technology combined with the high technology of Italian semiconductor has turned our vision into reality.”

At Luxe Pack 2021 exhibition of Grimaldi forum in Monaco from September 27 to 29, Italian and French semiconductor experts attended VPI (Faiveley plastbeauty) booth dc09 to show this application.

Edit reference information

St25tv belongs to NFC / RFID tag chip series of Italian French semiconductor, which provides specific tag read-write protection modes, including kill and untraceable modes, 64 bit encrypted password to protect user memory read-write access, with failure attempt counter, and digital signature and tamper proof detection function to verify the source of the chip in clone detection.

The st25tv tag IC also includes a configurable EEPROM with a data retention period of 60 years, and can read and write tags through a 13.56 MHz remote RFID reader or NFC mobile phone.

The contactless interface of st25tv is compatible with ISO / IEC 15693 standard and NFC forum type 5 label. St25tv has passed NFC Forum Certification and can interoperate with all NFC mobile phones.
