After Samsung released the micro led modular TV “the wall” in early 2018, the “competition” in the field of micro LED display suddenly began. All key performances of micro led, such as resolution, color gamut, brightness, response speed, service life and energy consumption, are superior to the mainstream LCD and emerging technology OLED. Technically, it is considered to be the limit of human 2D display. Once entering the market, it will completely replace the existing display technology.

In 2018, micro LED technology began to mature. First, in 2018, Taiwan’s playnitride, Jingdian, South Korea’s Samsung, LG and Japan’s Sony overcame the core problem restricting the development of micro led and transferred technology in a large amount. Second, in terms of backplane, Si CMOS technology has been relatively mature. The drive is mainly divided into active drive and passive drive. Solutions have also been found to solve the problems of consistency and color stability in epitaxial growth.

It can be said that the prototype of a complete micro LED display industry chain has been presented. This also means that 2019 shows that the market is about to usher in a reshuffle period.

Specifically, compared with traditional LCD, micro LED will no longer be used as backlight, but will be directly made into display screen. At present, the industrial chain of LCD display screen is mainly divided into six parts: raw materials, LED chips, LED device packaging, LED display screen, backplane and drive. The micro LED industry chain will no longer need relevant enterprises for LED device packaging, but will increase companies with a large amount of transfer or full-color conversion technology. The original LED chip factory will be able to connect directly with display manufacturers.

The reconstruction of the industrial chain will change the current display market pattern. The giants of LED device packaging must transform as soon as possible, otherwise they will decline. The former technical barriers do not have any significance in the reconstructed industrial chain. Some start-up enterprises with huge transfer and other technologies will become an important part of the new industrial chain and usher in new development opportunities.
