On March 7, according to foreign media gsmarena, the latest data from IDC (International Data Corporation) showed that the annual shipments of wearable devices in 2018 were 172.2 million units, with a year-on-year increase of 27.5%, of which nearly a quarter (21.9%) were headphones, with a year-on-year increase of 66.4%.
In the last quarter of 2018, apple shipped 16.2 million devices, of which 10.4 million were apple watches, while the rest were airpods or beats headphones. Apple occupied a leading position of 26.8% of the whole market in 2018. The shipment of smart wearable devices in 2018 was 46.2 million, compared with 33.1 million in 2017.
The data of Xiaomi and Huawei have also been greatly improved compared with 2017. Xiaomi’s sales increased by nearly 45% year-on-year, keeping its second place. Huawei increased from 4.6 million wearable devices in 2017 to 11.3 million in 2018, an increase of 147%. Huawei’s great progress in the wearable device market is due to new products such as watch GT and freebuses 2 pro, as well as many Huawei and honor smartphones bundled with wearable devices.
Jitesh ubrani, senior research analyst at IDC, described the growth of ear wearable devices. He said: “Wearable earphone products have increased significantly in the past year, and we expect this trend to continue in the next few years. This has become the next battlefield for many companies, because the 3.5mm earphone port is beginning to be removed from contemporary digital devices, so this type of earphone will become a necessity for more people.”
