First, de-diffraction, light diffraction is not obvious on traditional cameras; thus it is particularly conspicuous on off-screen cameras.

Second, denoising. Due to the low light transmittance of the screen, the image directly obtained by the camera under the screen is very noisy.

Third, to remove the fog, the camera under the screen will diffract the light, and will produce a layer of fog in the diffuse reflection area.

Fourth, toning, because the display screen has some special layers, these layers suppress the light with higher frequency more, which will lead to local color cast.

In the end, the algorithm group, the debugging group, and the test group are combined to solve these problems. Although not completely resolved, there is a substantial improvement. In the follow-up work, we will further improve and polish.


Q: Is it a lot of pressure to do MIX? All the rice noodles are looking forward to. Are you worried that the rice noodles will not be cooked well and will not meet the expectations of the rice noodles?

A: The pressure is still relatively high. In people’s minds, there is an ideal goal for both imaging and display. If you deviate too much from this goal, the improvement of the effect of the full screen will be swallowed by its shortcomings. It is unrealistic for the current technology to completely solve these problems, so we can only do our best to move in a good direction. We are not 100% sure whether the results of our efforts meet expectations, but our engineers will go all out to do our best.


Q: As Xiaomi’s first “CUP full screen” mobile phone, what does MIX4 represent?

A: The spirit of MIX is the brave exploration of new fields. The software and hardware used on MIX are not fully mature at present, with a certain degree of exploratory and verification.
