1、 Hardware connection between PLC and computer
There are two kinds of common cables, one is fx-232awch (SC09) cable, which contains RS232C / RS422 converter; Another kind of fx-usb-aw (also known as usb-sc9-fx) cable, as shown in the figure, contains USB / RS232 converter.
When selecting PLC programming cable, first check whether the computer has COM interface, because many computers have canceled this interface. If the computer has COM interface, fx-232awc-h cable can be used to connect PLC and computer. When connecting, the com head of the cable is inserted into the COM interface of the computer, and the circular plug at the other end of the cable is inserted into the programming port of the PLC.
If the computer has no COM interface, fx-usb-aw cable can be used to connect the computer with PLC. When connecting, the USB head of the cable is inserted into the USB interface of the computer, and the circular plug of the other end of the cable is inserted into the programming port of the PLC.
When the fx-usb-aw cable is inserted into the USB interface of the computer, the driver of the cable should be installed in the computer. After the driver is installed, right-click “my computer” on the computer desktop, and select “device manager” in the pop-up menu to pop up the device manager window, as shown in the figure.

2、 Communication settings
After connecting PLC and computer with programming cable, start gxdeveloper software, open or create a new project, execute menu command “online transmission setting”, pop up “transmission setting” dialog box, double-click “serial USB” icon in the upper left corner, and the detailed setting dialog box will appear, as shown in the figure.
Select “RS232C” item in the dialog box, select the terminal return number to connect with PLC in “COM port”. When using fx-usb-aw cable to connect, the port number should be consistent with the virtual COM port number in the device manager. Select a speed (such as 19.2kbps) in the transfer item, click “confirm” to return to the “transfer settings” dialog box.
If you want to know whether the connection between PLC and computer is successful, you can click “communication letter setting” in the “transmission setting” dialog box. If the successful connection prompt as shown in the figure appears, the table PLC and computer have been successfully connected, and click “confirm” to complete the communication setting.
3、 Program writing and reading
The writer of the program refers to sending the program from the programming computer to the PLC, while the readout is to transfer the program in the PLC to the computer. The operation instructions of the program writing are shown in the table, and the readout operation process of the program is basically similar to that of the write. When the program is written or read out to PLC, in addition to ensuring the normal communication between PLC and computer, PLC also needs to be connected to the working power supply.
