5g licensing ushered in the first anniversary. 2020 is the first year of large-scale commercial use of 5g. China’s three major telecom operators will open more than 600000 5g base stations. On the one hand, operators speed up the construction of 5g network; On the other hand, the collaborative cooperation between upstream and downstream of 5g industrial chain also continues to accelerate the pace of business.
According to the prediction of China Academy of information and communications, from 2020 to 2025, China’s 5g business will directly drive the total economic output of 10.6 trillion yuan, directly create economic added value of 3.3 trillion yuan, indirectly drive the total economic output of about 24.8 trillion yuan, and indirectly drive the economic added value of 8.4 trillion yuan.

China Mobile has built and opened more than 140000 5g base stations and developed more than 50 million 5g package users; By the end of May, China Telecom had opened more than 140000 5g base stations, and China Unicom had nearly 130000 available 5g base stations. Among them, the two sides have opened 115000 shared base stations.
At the “online Summit on the 1st anniversary of 5g licensing” held on the same day, Wu Hequan, academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering, said that 5g is the fusion of various technologies of the new generation information infrastructure, and the new generation information infrastructure can be applied to traditional industries through 5g.
The importance and strategic significance of 5g are obvious, but operators are willing to build networks on a large scale only when they find the growth point of 5g revenue. Therefore, the mining of application scenarios plays an important role in 5g investment.
What can we expect from 5g “killer applications”?
Considering the industrial maturity and cultivation difficulty, the 4G era should be the first to break out in the 5g era. However, 5g can bring more superior experience and cost-effective business applications.
Enhanced mobile broadband (embB) is considered to be the earliest application scenario of 5g network for personal consumption market, and will be mainly used in two key areas: video and AR / VR applications. According to the data of China information and Communication Research Institute and other institutions, video accounted for 64% of the total mobile Internet traffic in 2016 and 78% by 2021.
Industrial Securities pointed out in a research report that high-definition video communication, cloud games, distance education and video live broadcasting anytime and anywhere will become the first applications. Next, smart home, smart medicine, smart transportation and smart city will be gradually launched.
Especially in the three scenes of games, audio-visual entertainment and image creation, 5g has an obvious catalytic effect. In the short term, in terms of games, 5g era cloud games make it possible to have zero waiting, low delay and full special effects, and completely solve the user pain points such as slow 4G download speed, long network delay and poor hand game special effects. In addition, 5g is stimulating vlog creation, subverting the video form, and realizing low threshold, cloud sharing and panoramic shooting.
Thanks to the large bandwidth of 5g, video can be transmitted in multiple scenes, “In the past, when we watched a sports game, the lens was staring at a star, and we could only see one picture. In the future, multiple cameras can shoot at the same time, and consumers can switch freely to see their favorite stars or different scenes on the field. The user experience has been improved and the willingness to pay has been strengthened. Accelerated integration of industry applications
China’s 5g industry application is gradually entering the stage of replication and promotion from the stage of single business exploration and pilot demonstration. In addition to 2C’s personal consumer business, 5g focuses on how to integrate with vertical industries.
5g is revolutionary in realizing the expansion from the mobile Internet to the Internet of things. 3GPP defines three 5g application scenarios as embB, mmtc and urllc. In addition to the mobile Internet scenario mentioned above, both mmtc and urllc belong to the Internet of things scenario. Mmtc corresponds to large-scale machine communication, while urllc corresponds to services requiring low delay and high reliable connection, such as unmanned driving and industrial automation.

According to GE’s prediction, by 2020, the annual output value of industrial Internet will reach US $225 billion, exceeding the output value of consumer Internet of US $170 billion. The industrialization needs of emerging economies such as mainland China continue to promote the development of industrial Internet platforms in the Asia Pacific region.
