First: Fist product in ADAS field, SerDes chip
SerDes IC has two specific applications, one of which is in the camera, there is a pair of SerDes products from the camera module to the vehicle SoC, and there is also a pair of SerDes products from the screen side to transmit the information of the SoC to the screen side.
According to Chen Xingle, the transmission rate can be optimized and the spread spectrum function are two features of ROHM SerDes IC. The former contributes to reducing power consumption of in-vehicle camera modules and achieves lower EMI, and the latter, combined with the former, reduces the design man-hours for EMI countermeasures. From June 2021, ROHM has started mass production of the first SerDes IC products with these features, the SerDes IC "BU18xMxx-C" for automotive camera modules.
・Basic features: Low power consumption. The new product has the function of optimizing the transmission rate according to the resolution, which can transmit the data of the required resolution with less power, which will be very helpful to reduce the power consumption of the application products.
・Basic features: Low noise. The new product has a function to optimize the transfer rate, so it can reduce noise by adjusting the noise peak. In addition, it has a spread spectrum*4 function, which can significantly reduce noise and help reduce the man-hours of noise reduction design.
The new product "BU18xx82-M" complies with AEC-Q100, the reliability standard for automotive electronic products, to ensure the high reliability required for in-vehicle applications. In addition, the serializer "BU18TL82-M" supports input interfaces OpenLDI and MIPI-DSI, so it is suitable for various SoCs.
Second: New car camera PMIC product – BD868xxMUF-C
The BD868xxMUF-C for in-vehicle cameras is integrated into the functional safety production process system, that is, it complies with ISO 26262 and ASIL-B standards. Among ROHM's functional safety brand ComfySIL™ series products, it is a product that meets its highest level requirements.
For PMICs used in cameras, ROHM launched PMICs BD868xxMUF-C (BD868C0MUF-C, BD868D0MUF-C) that comply with ISO 26262 and its ASIL-B standards in May this year. The BD868xxMUF-C, on the other hand, is able to meet stringent functional safety requirements, making it easier to design the safety required for next-generation vehicles equipped with ADAS.
Among similar PMICs, BD868xxMUF-C achieves the industry's ultra-small size, with a package area of only 3.5mm × 3.5mm. Compared with previous products, three components can be reduced, and the installation area can be reduced by 25%, which contributes to the miniaturization of in-vehicle cameras.
In addition, the device can perform a wider range of output voltage settings and timing control settings to meet the different requirements of different CMOS image sensors from various manufacturers, helping to reduce development man-hours.
Next, ROHM will launch new product derivatives BD868A0MUF-C, BD868B0MUF-C and BD868C1MUF-C. Among them, BD868B0MUF-C is suitable for camera modules in cold areas, and can output driving signals for heaters.
Third: SoC overall reference design
For the above-mentioned new products, ROHM has cooperated with the automotive chip company – Xinchi Technology to develop a complete set of evaluation board systems, and the two parties have reached an advanced technology development partnership in the automotive field. The latest reference design jointly launched by the two parties is equipped with ROHM's latest SerDes IC and PMIC, and images can be checked on an actual display.
The evaluation board uses the main module + SoC module to provide a cockpit solution that can drive 4 screens. In addition, ROHM also provides a reference solution for display modules, equipped with a SerDes IC for a deserializer for displays, a general-purpose PMIC for vehicles, and an LED driver for backlight.
