As we all know, aeroengine is known as the “pearl on the crown” of modern industry. It is one of the most complex and precise industrial products in human history. It is precisely because of its high complexity, coupled with the rapid iteration of technical equipment in developed countries, specific historical factors and international environment, the imitation of aeroengine in China is successful, but the independent development has taken a difficult and tortuous road.

China’s aviation industry started from imitating the Soviet model, but the Soviet Union only taught us how to “copy”, not how to “research”. Similarly, when we introduced models from other countries, they not only didn’t teach us “imitation”, but also prevented us from “research”. Most of the products exported to us were second-class and third-class products at that time or even about to be eliminated. In addition, we have a weak industrial foundation, insufficient technical reserves and various factors. Although we once wanted to break through the word “imitation” and go out of the way of “research”, there has always been no substantive breakthrough.

What is more distressing is that many people are familiar with the technology and management of imitation due to the habit of imitation, but they do not have enough understanding and exploration of the regularity of independent development. The history of aeroengine development before the 1990s was almost a history of imitation production. Although there were several models developed by ourselves, they failed to be finalized and assembled due to the lack of long-term planning, insufficient investment intensity, long development cycle and loss of use objects, and only a few modified engines were put into use.

Sunshine always comes after the rain. In long-term practice, we have also reached a valuable and important consensus: “simple imitation can only save the emergency, not the poor. Imitation is like a flower in a vase. It has no roots and can not produce the second generation”, “advanced technology can not be bought and begged”, “without core technology, it must be subject to people”… Since the middle and late 1990s, the Party Central Committee has launched the development of a number of high-tech equipment, The aeroengine industry has ushered in a period of rapid development. Kunlun, Taihang, Yulong and other key models were successfully developed after hard work.

Military aeroengines have achieved a leap from the second generation to the third generation, from turbojet to turbofan, and from medium thrust to high thrust, which has laid a solid foundation for the further development of aeroengines.

The Yangtze 1000 equipped with domestic C919 large passenger aircraft has been approved and developed, and the development of civil aviation engine has also taken key steps.

The aviation reform gas turbine has successfully realized industrial operation and achieved phased results.
