Qin Jie: Hello everyone. I’m Qin Jie from China Mobile. Today, I am honored to have this opportunity to share with you the latest development of otii server.
Otii project is a customized server solution for 5g and edge computing. It has been widely supported by the industry since its establishment. The project has also made great progress in technical scheme, pilot application and industrial promotion. So far, 39 users and suppliers have joined the otii project.
At the beginning of this year, otii project proposed a solution of 1U server for BBU white box hardware and remote edge scene based on 2U server. After half a year’s efforts, the 1U server solution has been gradually improved on the basis of docking with Oran colleagues in the early stage and soliciting opinions from the majority of partners. Yang Tao, the project manager of the 1U server project, has made a detailed interpretation of the technical solution of the server and the subsequent project progress.
The figure on the right is a prototype produced by our partners according to the technical requirements of 1U server. It is displayed on our odcc featured booth. I think many colleagues may have paid attention to it. Welcome to continue to pay attention to the technical progress of otii 1U server.
Another project this year, otii server management specification interface compliance checking tool. We all know that otii project, in addition to the targeted design in terms of regular size, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, dust prevention, EMC and seismic resistance, is also a major advantage of otii server.
In view of the edge environment, decentralized deployment of servers, and remote unattended management and other issues, the server management is facing greater challenges. According to these challenges, otii server has formulated unified management interface requirements and enhanced management functions. With the development of server management protocol, it has better expansibility, better security and easier integration. Redfish protocol with stronger functions replaces the original IPMI interface. At the same time, dmtf has also formulated a set of relatively perfect standard redfish interface requirements. Otii server has formulated a unified redfish management interface specification based on the standardized interface according to its own needs, so as to reduce the adaptation work between the server and the network management platform, and improve the efficiency of operation and maintenance management. The interface conformance checking tool for otii server management specification is a set of automatic verification tools developed for the unified interface requirements of otii server. Through the use of the tools, we can ensure the consistency of the interface specification between the R & D delivery phase and otii from the code level, and avoid the subsequent server operation and maintenance management problems due to the understanding and implementation deviation of the interface specification documents.
Therefore, this tool can allow suppliers to test and verify their own products in the R & D phase, solve product bugs in advance, and improve the efficiency of products. The figure in the lower right corner describes the main structure of the tool, including input module and executable program, including output module. The input module contains basic server information, such as user name, password, IP, and redfish interface information template defined according to the interface specification, including some test items, UIL interface path and input and output parameter requirements. Executable program is to call the interface and process the result. The output module has output results of single server, output results of multiple servers, and test log, which is convenient for fault location. This tool adopts a relatively independent structure of interface information module and executable program. When there are new interface requirements, we do not need to change the executive program. We only need to add corresponding test items in our redfish information interface template according to the specification requirements, so it has good scalability. The following is about the otii server pilot. This page is about China Mobile’s CDN sinking pilot project based on otii server in the edge computer rooms of several provincial companies. In order to provide users with better perception, CDN reduces transmission delay, provides faster service response and improves user experience by sinking cities, districts and counties. However, when the CDN sinks, the server deployment mode has changed from centralized deployment of traditional provinces to distributed deployment of cities, districts and counties. However, some conditions of cities, districts and counties have problems in space, environment, and power supply, so many general-purpose servers cannot be deployed.
The figure on the right shows the situation of several computer rooms during the CDN test. The deployment location of CDN is in the important convergence room. The location of the computer room is the district and county comprehensive building. The rack depth is mainly 600mm and 800mm. Most of the nodes are limited in space. In this case, otii server is very suitable for deployment. The main test content of CDN includes basic function test. Internet TV Ott and CDN components are deployed on otii server to test and verify Internet TV Ott service and server hardware. On the other hand, it is the CDN cloud solution test, which builds virtual machine and container cloud resource environment on otii service. CDN is deployed on virtual machine and container, and a single server undertakes multiple services, so as to realize more convenient and flexible CDN flexible deployment. The third aspect is the service performance test, based on the existing network business requirements, test the overall situation of the server, user data and server hardware status, and statistics of the server. The graph at the bottom right shows the statistics of the number of concurrent users and traffic at each time point of the day, as well as the server resource utilization rate. The number of concurrent users reaches the peak at 8-9 p.m., reflecting that the resource utilization of the corresponding memory and hard disk on the server is also the highest. Through this pilot, we can see that otii server can meet the requirements of CDN business in terms of specification, environmental adaptability, scalability, performance and so on.
This page introduces some cases of otii server landing in the edge scene of edge smart factory and smart park. Based on the technical advantages of 5g high bandwidth, low delay and large connection, as well as the local real-time processing ability of edge computing, the intelligent and efficient factory and park can be realized.
The first is the 5g + VR application in Guangdong ceramic factory. The otii server is deployed in the outdoor base station cabinet, which can realize the quality inspection of the whole assembly line of the factory, as well as VR experience of the production workshop in the factory, and can remotely observe the production process of the factory automation.
The second is the application of 5g + low delay in a manufacturing enterprise in Shanxi Province. The core appeal is to solve the problem of high network delay of intelligent forklift truck in the factory. Through 5g network coverage, CPE is installed on forklift, forklift data is connected with 5g base station, and mec shunt gateway products and edge otii server are deployed in 5g base station to realize industrial level high precision control and real-time data analysis.
The third is 5g + AI application in an industrial park in Shandong Province. Otii is deployed in the base station room to cooperate with GPU server to solve the industrial quality inspection of the industrial park and realize intelligent inspection.
The following is the promotion of otii server, which has become the preferred solution for edge service hardware server of three operators. Otii is the preferred model of OTI laboratory, and the edge server solution recommended by China Mobile edge computing white paper. At the same time, the test of vbras and vcpe network elements is implemented in the OTI server of China Telecom. In China Telecom 5g open laboratory, the hardware solution of MEC uses otii server to promote 5g innovation. In China Unicom, regular recruitment of otii edge servers was conducted, and white box UPE function and N4 interface compatibility test were carried out based on otii server.
Next, we will introduce the work plan of otii server, mainly focusing on the improvement of otii server technology and industrial promotion. According to the pilot test, we gradually improve the o-ran1u server solution and the maturity of hardware design scheme such as storage type. In addition, according to the business needs, continuously optimize the server configuration model, such as hardware acceleration technology in-depth research. In addition, the integration of server peripheral equipment, such as edge network equipment, proposes a small integrated edge overall solution for enterprise customers. Relying on odcc platform, promote the application of otii server in various industries, and further promote the industrial chain cost and reduce the cost.
