As we all know, there are three cards that determine chip hegemony, namely materials, EDA software and semiconductor equipment. Among them, the material is mainly monopolized by Japan, while EDA software is monopolized by the United States, while semiconductor equipment is monopolized by the United States and Japan together, and the dominant is the United States.

That’s why the United States is the real leader of semiconductors. After all, in addition to these three cards, the United States accounts for 50% of the global chip market. That’s why there have been chip bans against China over the years.

When there is oppression, there is resistance. Therefore, we can see that in the past two years, China core has been blooming in an all-round way, with continuous development in materials, equipment, EDA software, and continuous progress in key links such as design, manufacturing, sealing and testing.

China's EDA localization rate reaches 10%

Recently, at the 2020 world semiconductor conference EDA industry development sub forum, some organizations disclosed a set of data. In 2019, the global EDA market will reach 10.25 billion US dollars. China’s EDA market in 2019 is about 580 million US dollars, accounting for 5.6% of the global market.

In this $10.25 billion market, domestic EDA only got 420 million yuan of revenue, accounting for only 0.6% of the total revenue. But the good news is that in the current use of EDA in China, the localization rate of EDA has reached 10%.

The share of Synopsys, cadence and mentor in China is about 85%, 10 percentage points lower than the previous 95%.

In addition, there are about 150 billion domestic EDA employees, but only 500 of them work in local EDA companies, and the remaining 1000 work in foreign EDA companies in China.

To be honest, although this data is not ideal, it is still a big step forward compared with the past. At least the localization rate has reached 10%. At the same time, at least one third of the employees work in domestic EDA companies.

With the arrival of the tide of domestic substitution, I believe that domestic EDA software will continue to develop and be used by more and more domestic manufacturers. At that time, this card in the hands of the United States may be slowly disintegrated by Chinese EDA manufacturers. What do you think?
