5g millimeter wave industry chain has been basically mature. Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson, CITIC, Nokia bell and other mainstream mobile communication equipment providers have launched base station equipment supporting 5g millimeter wave, and chip and terminal equipment manufacturers have also released a large number of products supporting 5g millimeter wave.
In the 5g millimeter wave exhibition area, a number of manufacturers displayed 5g millimeter wave terminal coverage modules, mobile phones, CPE, PC, AR (augmented reality) and XR (extended reality) devices, live backpacks, robots and other rich categories. Among them, oppo’s 5g millimeter wave CPE shows the charm of high-speed wireless network; vivo brings 5g + 8K ultra high definition video live dynamic display, which fully shows its own 5g millimeter wave R & D technical strength.
In terms of chips, Qualcomm, Hisilicon, Samsung and MediaTek have all deployed millimeter wave chips.
In addition, according to Meng Pu, chairman of China of Qualcomm, at this MWC conference, more than 130 operators around the world are actively investing in millimeter wave technology.
GSMA mentioned in the white paper on 5g millimeter wave technology that the development ecology of 5g millimeter wave industry at home and abroad has been relatively complete, and it has the conditions for deployment and commercialization. At present, the mainstream mobile communication equipment providers have launched 5g millimeter wave base station equipment, and some of them have begun to sell the second or third generation products. Chip manufacturers and terminal equipment manufacturers have also released some 5g millimeter wave products.
In fact, China’s 5g millimeter wave business has long been on the agenda. At the end of August 2020, China Unicom announced its 5g millimeter wave development schedule. According to the plan, the test and scheme evaluation will be completed in March this year, and the millimeter wave end network interoperability test will be completed. In June, we completed the deployment of related sports facilities and the experience deployment of millimeter wave application products. It is generally believed that China will realize 5g millimeter wave commercial use in 2022.
Although 5g millimeter wave is still in the test stage in China, millimeter wave has already been commercialized in other countries and regions in the world. It is reported that the United States, Japan, Southeast Asia and other countries and regions have deployed 5g millimeter wave networks and services. Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and other European countries, as well as South Korea and Australia will launch millimeter wave commercial deployment this year.
GSMA predicts that 5g millimeter wave, as one of the core enabling technologies in high-speed access, industrial automation, health care, intelligent transportation and virtual reality, will contribute 565 billion US dollars to global GDP by 2035, accounting for one fourth of the total contribution of 5g; by 2034, the economic benefits of using 5g millimeter wave in China will reach about 104 billion US dollars.
In 2021, with the joint efforts of the industrial chain, 5g millimeter wave commercial applications will accelerate the landing, and further promote the development of 5g technology in the direction of higher speed, lower delay and wider application, so that more consumers can feel the new experience brought by 5g.
