Recently, the three major domestic operators announced the “report card” in the first half of the year: the overall performance has increased steadily, and 5g% has become the “driving force” for telecom business growth. One of the most gratifying is that the number of 5g package users in China has exceeded 100 million.
According to the latest operation data released by the three major domestic operators in the first half of 2020, the cumulative number of domestic 5g package users has exceeded 100 million. Data shows that the number of mobile users of China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom in the first half of the year were 947 million, 310 million and 343 million, respectively, reaching 1.6 billion. Among them, China Mobile and China Telecom announced the number of 5g users, with 70.2 million for China Mobile and 37.84 million for China Telecom. The total number of 5g users in these two countries alone has exceeded 100 million.
Then, on August 20, China Mobile announced its operation data for July, with a net increase of 13.858 million customers with 5g packages. By the end of July 2020, the number of 5g package customers has reached 84.057 million. On August 21, China Telecom also released user data for July. The net increase of 5g package users was 11.43 million, and the total number of 5g package users was 49.27 million. The total number of 5g package users in China has exceeded 130 million. Some analysts predict that if China Unicom’s 5g users are added, the domestic 5g package users should exceed 150 million.
In terms of 5g network deployment and commercial application, relying on the scale of more than 100 million users and the deployment of more than 600000 5g base stations by the end of the year, the key threshold of scale development has been crossed.
Judging from the current situation of 5g deployment, China is undoubtedly the leader. It is estimated that 70% of 5g users and 70% of 5g base stations will be in China by the end of the year, which will lead to the rapid maturity of corresponding equipment, network building experience and business model. In fact, China’s 5g has formed a wide range of demonstration effects in the use of frequency band and network construction mode.
In the words of the industry, “5g needs the arrival of the critical point of network scale, user scale and terminal use scale, and 100 million may be an inflection point.” Nowadays, the domestic 5g network scale, user scale and terminal use scale are all leading in the world, so it is natural for China to take the lead in crossing the key threshold of 5g globally.
According to philosophers, the development of things always follows a process from quantitative change to qualitative change. Now China’s 5g has crossed the key node between the two. In the future, the potential of its scale development is expected to be released in advance.
On July 14 this year, Ericsson released the mobile market report, which predicted that the number would reach 2.8 billion by the end of 2025. By then, 5g would cover nearly 65% of the global population, and 45% of the data traffic would be carried by 5g network. Meanwhile, 89% of Chinese consumers surveyed believe that 5g will play a greater role and 59% are willing to invest in 5g in the future. According to the report of China Academy of communications and communications, China’s 5g network construction investment will reach 1.2 trillion in 2025.
Xiang Ligang, a well-known communications expert, emphasized the important relationship between 5g and the “new infrastructure” proposed by China. He believes that it is necessary to develop key technologies such as 5g to bring infrastructure to a new level.
More than 20 provinces and cities in China have officially released the 5g industrial planning, and plan to complete the 5g network coverage in the key areas and main venues of each province and province by 2020. From 2021 to 2023, it will realize the application of Internet of vehicles, industrial Internet, intelligent medicine, intelligent education and other important scenarios in key areas. Data show that new infrastructure such as 5g has provided new impetus for economic growth. By 2025, 5g will drive 6.3 trillion, 1.1 trillion and 4 million jobs in total output, economic added value and employment opportunities.
In this process, China’s scale advantage in 5g and the leading advantage in time node will be more obvious. After all, China’s volume is there. If the potential is released effectively, the result will be twice the result with half the effort.
