In the 4G era, China Mobile has crushed China Telecom and China Unicom. In the 5g era, it is inevitable for the latter two to form a group, and the joint construction of 5g network is the most important part.
A few days ago, the radio administration bureau of the Ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) issued the announcement of “radio frequency technical requirements for base stations of 5g mobile communication system in 2100mhz band (Trial)”, in which the announcement pointed out that in order to meet the requirements of 5g application and ensure the compatible coexistence of 5g mobile communication system in 2100mhz band and other radio services in China.
What does this rule mean? The “3.5G + 2.1g” dual band 5g strategy previously formulated by China Telecom and China Unicom can be implemented justly, which also means that the two sides can promote the collaborative innovation of the world’s widest TDD (200m) and FDD (2x40m) spectrum, maximize the spectrum efficiency, and realize the improvement of uplink 4-5 times experience and 7-9db deep coverage.
At present, China has allocated 5g bands to the four operators. As far as China Telecom and China Unicom are concerned, what China Telecom gets is (N78), that is, 3.5GHz band (3400mhz-3500mhz); China Unicom also got 3.5GHz band (3500mhz-3600mhz) on (N78). From the allocated frequency band, it can be seen that the frequency band allocated by China Telecom and China Unicom on N78 is continuous, which is conducive to the joint construction of 5g network by the two companies.
According to the previous announcement of both sides, as of October 2020, the 5g sharing scale of China Unicom and China Telecom has reached more than 300000 stations, covering all cities above prefecture level in China.
Three “global firsts” have been achieved: the first and largest co construction and sharing 5g network in the world; The world’s first 200MHz high-performance 5g network with large bandwidth; The world’s first 5g network with TDD + FDD hybrid network. Through co construction and sharing, 5g network construction and operation costs are significantly saved. Capex is expected to save about 40% and OPEX is expected to save about 35% annually, fully highlighting the advantages of co construction and sharing.
