At the arm Techcon conference in San Jose, USA today,Arm announced that it is a founding member of the self driving car computing Association (avcc), a group of industry leaders focused on accelerating large-scale delivery of safer and more affordable self driving cars.Avcc members include general motors, Toyota, Denso, Continental, Bosch, NXP semiconductors and NVIDIA.

How can deployable self driving vehicles become a reality? It requires listening, learning and acting. There are many major challenges in deploying self driving vehicles, including the realization of ultra-high performance computing under the constraints of vehicle energy consumption, heat energy and size, so as to operate large and complex self driving software stack.
Avcc understands the technical complexities and obstacles that must be overcome in deploying self driving vehicles. The future goal is to work together to launch a conceptual computing platform to meet these challenges. This organization has gathered unique professional expertise and common goals, and its first goal is to define a reference architecture and platform, so as to achieve the performance goal of self driving vehicles under the constraints of practicality and economy of vehicle deployment. The design of this computing platform is intended to enable the current prototype system to deploy on a large scale and to develop corresponding software API requirements for each component in the automatic driving system.

Enabling innovation

In the current road conditions, commuting is probably the most worrying thing every day, because you have to face all kinds of distracted drivers on the congested road. But imagine that the vehicle can perceive the dynamic environment, and the vehicle can seamlessly communicate with other vehicles, roadside infrastructure and digital service network, and deliver passengers or goods to the destination safely and automatically.
