The CTIA battery certification program has had a positive impact on a global scale, because it is impossible for manufacturers to exclude themselves from the great potential of the U.S. market by not developing products that meet this standard.
CTIA is designed in collaboration with leading cellular network operators such as at & T and Verizon, as well as experts in the battery industry. It requires all products to undergo mandatory third-party testing and auditing, certification categories include batteries, battery packs and power adapters, as well as complete cellular product systems. CTIA requirements now include another standard, ieee1625, for laptops with GSM capabilities using lithium-ion batteries.
