In March, 2022, R17 completed the function freeze.

R17 continues to expand the industrial Internet of things technology and further improve the positioning technology to improve the positioning accuracy and shorten the time delay. Improve the positioning efficiency to expand the capacity and achieve better GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) auxiliary positioning performance.

5g R17 standard is expected to be frozen in June 2022.

In April, 2021, 5g evolution standard was officially named 5g advanced at the 46th PCG meeting of 3GPP. R18 is the first version of 5g advanced.

In the future, 5g R18 standard will further promote the upgrading of 5g positioning technology.

The main indicator of accurate indoor positioning is positioning accuracy. 5g positioning was released in 3GPP R16, and the indoor positioning accuracy target is 3M @80%. The target of R17 release is 1m (indoor). In the future, it will achieve sub meter positioning, that is, less than 1m.

5g positioning for commercial use and promoting the development of 5g industry

On the basis of 5g communication capability, the industry has proposed whether 5g can directly carry the positioning capability. It is a major development direction of 5g to support the positioning function with relevant components and software capabilities and to advance the entire 5g industry chain.

At the 19th global analyst conference held a few days ago, chenchuanfei, President of Huawei wireless network indoor digital product line, and huchunzhe, vice president of Huawei cloud core network product line, had a wonderful share on the topic of 5g indoor positioning, and had a Q & A exchange with some industry media, including electronic enthusiasts.

Huawei executives said that at present, the entire industry is working in three directions for 5g oriented business: standards, industries and solutions.

The standard is advancing rapidly, and the global industrial chain is advancing together, including key pain points such as positioning accuracy and terminal power consumption; In terms of industrial chain, how to quickly connect 5g positioning with the existing industrial chain; Facing the pain points and problems of the existing positioning technology through solutions.

What are the key technologies of 5g indoor positioning?

First of all, a 5gtob network for the enterprise should not only solve the communication problems, but also realize the positioning function.

Secondly, in terms of scenario, especially for high-precision manufacturing enterprises, 7 × 24-hour operation requires high availability of the positioning network. At the same time, enterprises will also require that the measured data not be sent out of the park. In addition, there are open requirements.

In short, it will be an indoor end-to-end solution. Huawei provides capabilities from terminal modules to wireless access networks, to core networks and then to platforms, and provides carrier grade commercial and reliable applications.

For 5g indoor positioning technology, Huawei has achieved key technological breakthroughs.

Huawei executives introduced that in terms of 5g indoor positioning measurement, we have solved two industry problems based on traditional utdoa, field strength and fingerprint positioning, and adopted two artificial intelligence algorithms: 1 Radioslam fingerprint automatic generation technology; 2. beacon free deployment.

The core network mainly solves two key functions in positioning: 1 Storage of positioning information. 2. decoding + calculation of positioning information. In addition, some open interfaces will be provided.

There are mainly three kinds of indoor positioning technologies: triangle positioning, positioning through time difference; Fingerprint, first conduct 2 × 2. The divided area of the square, in which relevant fingerprint information is collected manually one-to-one and point-to-point; Field strength positioning is based on power consumption.

For fingerprint acquisition, there are problems of high cost, difficult access and convenience of deployment. If a beacon is placed, the power supply of the beacon itself is a problem. It is not suitable to hang it in the air or put it on the ground, which will interfere with the production of the enterprise. Is there any way to measure automatically or without beacon? Huawei gave a positive answer.

For the measurement difficulties of indoor positioning, Huawei provides the radioslam solution, which is common in all scenarios from Los to NLOS. Due to the use of AI technology, information collection can be completed only by non professionals using the measurement terminal. After the acquisition, the fingerprint can be automatically optimized by using Huawei’s proprietary graph optimization and genetic algorithm, and can be automatically corrected when the network equipment deployment changes, equipment aging, and power changes.

The arrival delay error is automatically corrected by AI algorithm without using beacon. There are mainly two types of aggregation technologies, namely, classification level aggregation technology, to preliminarily classify the data. After classification, artificial intelligence and aggregation algorithm are used to form the aggregation layer.

In particular, for typical scenarios such as centralized deployment in LCS regions, centralized collection and storage of positioning information locally, and high-precision computing scenarios (both data collection and calculation results need to be placed locally), Huawei adopts the 5g public network dedicated kite scheme, and uses a network sharing technology to deploy and solve the problem in combination with the deployment locations in different regions of LCs.

5g positioning system has also opened some standardized interfaces. At present, Huawei has opened similar interfaces with Shanghai Mobile Industry Research Institute, Beidou Positioning Platform in Shenzhen and China Haida service platform.

At the same time, Huawei also has its own integrated positioning platform to serve partners and help them better carry out the initial R & D and customization of solutions.

In general, Huawei’s 5g indoor positioning solution includes wireless lampsite EE (Enterprise Edition) and the LCS (location service) module of the embedded 5g core network. The third-party positioning platform or application provides positioning services to enterprises through docking with the standardized open interface of the LCS of the core network. The solution provides utdoa (uplink time difference of arrival), wireless fingerprint and field strength positioning technologies to meet the positioning requirements of LOS and NLOS in different scenarios. Through two innovative technologies, radioslam (radio simultaneous localization and mapping) and AI big data clustering delay correction algorithm, Huawei has realized the automatic generation of positioning fingerprint database and utdoa positioning beacon free delay correction, and solved the two promotion difficulties of manual fingerprint collection and beacon deployment.

5g positioning industry chain takes off

While the 5g standard is evolving, 5g positioning chips for different applications are also being developed.

This includes redcap, or reduced capability. It is a new technical standard specially approved and researched by 3GPP in 5g R17 stage. The downlink supported by redcap theory can reach 85mbps under the single link 20MHz bandwidth. Redcap is lower than embB in bandwidth and throughput, and much higher than lpwa. It is higher than lpwa in power consumption and cost, but far lower than embB. For high-speed connection in the Internet of things, it is mainly used in wearable devices, industrial wireless sensors, video surveillance and other application scenarios.

It is reported that the price of redcap module will be one tenth of that of 5g module, as low as about 100 yuan.

The other is low-power lphap for pure positioning. The cost of this positioning chip is expected to be several dollars.

In September last year, the low-power and high-precision positioning chip mk8510 of zhilian’an 5g lphap made its debut and will be officially launched in 2022.

It is reported that mk8510 is a 5g high-precision and ultra-low power cellular positioning chip independently developed by zhilian’an technology. It can realize the high-precision positioning requirements of indoor and outdoor integration through 5g macro stations and one network for each room.

Mk8510 chip has 5g lphap low-power and high-precision positioning capability, supports n41, n77, N78, N79 frequency bands, uplink 100MHz positioning signal transmission, and the positioning accuracy can reach 0.5m CEP 90%@ [email protected] , specially optimized RF Design for positioning, supporting omni-directional transmission. In addition, the unique low-power control technology of zhilian’an can extremely reduce the positioning power consumption, positioning once every 6 seconds, and realize the battery life of 1000mah for 12 months. Mk8510 supports most Internet of things application scenarios and provides an ultra long sleep mode. It can sleep automatically when it is still.

At present, the ICT Institute of the Ministry of industry and information technology has led the establishment of a 5g positioning industry working group, including chips, modules, terminals, networks, platforms, maps, applications, industry customers, etc. to jointly discuss the promotion and application of 5g positioning technology.

Since 5g was put into commercial use, the boundaries of 5g applications are being expanded, and 5g positioning function is one of the driving forces. With the close follow-up and strong investment of domestic manufacturers, 5g positioning chips and industrial chains have the opportunity to become another big Internet of things market with high and active participation, initiative and voice of Chinese manufacturers after NB IOT.
