On March 28, according to foreign media reports, a US laboratory issued a statement saying that it has launched a portable detection method, which can detect whether someone is infected with the new coronavirus within five minutes.
As the epidemic continues to spread, detection has become the top priority to deal with the epidemic. Recently, Abbott Laboratories said that it has been urgently authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and will provide a new testing equipment to health care providers as early as next week.
Abbott said in a statement that the shape of the test equipment is equivalent to the size of a small bread maker. Using molecular technology, it can give positive results in 5 minutes and negative results in 13 minutes, and has a high degree of test accuracy.
Abbott president and chief operating officer Robert Ford said: “the new coronavirus pandemic will fight on multiple fronts. A portable molecular test can provide results in a few minutes, providing a wide range of diagnostic solutions to combat this virus.”
Ford said the device is small enough to provide fast results in a wide range of healthcare environments, including doctors’ offices, emergency care clinics and hospital emergency departments. It can test about 50000 times a day and 5 million times a month.
