He believed that silicon photonics had the technical advantages of high integration, high reliability, low power consumption and low cost. In the application of 25g optical module, silicon photonics is not mature enough, and the advantages of chip and package cost and power consumption are not fully utilized. But if the forward transmission is upgraded to 50g, silicon photons will have application value. At present, silicon photonics technology is more suitable for developing products with higher added value and higher technical difficulty, such as 400g or coherent optical module solutions.

Whether using traditional applications or silicon photons, Zhu Yu introduced the importance of optical chips, and analyzed the current status of optical chips. In the aspect of optical chip, the laser is more difficult and needs a long time to verify, and the detector is relatively less difficult. In terms of electric chips, foreign suppliers are the main suppliers, while there are some start-up enterprises in China. In view of the current domestic optical chip supply, it has the ability to realize the drive module with lower cost.

Finally, Zhu Yu also suggested that 5g optical module industry should release industry standards as soon as possible, clarify product technology planning, promote scale production and use, and reduce the cost of 5g network construction.
