In 2019, we witnessed the launch of Wi Fi 6 certification products, the deployment of shared spectrum, the launch of 5g mobile phones and services in some cities, and the increase of private network attention. In 2020, new standards, new products and new services will provide enterprises with more choices to meet the growing demand for capacity and coverage and the growing expectations of end users.

The delivery of Wi Fi 6 devices covers many fields

In different vertical fields such as medical, education and hotel, the shipment of Wi Fi 6 access point (AP) will increase to support high bandwidth applications such as 4K video, e-sports, AR / VR, face recognition and public safety. We have seen that domestic enterprises and institutions are seeking to use Wi Fi 6 to provide greater indoor network capacity. For example, Shenzhen University Town, as the first case of Wi Fi 6 standard wireless campus network in China, has significantly improved the digital level of people’s work and life on campus.

By the end of this year, most of the access points to be shipped will be Wi Fi 6 AP (four times the capacity of Wi Fi 5 wave 2 AP). Wi Fi 6 AP deployed in dense equipment environment uses orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) and target wake-up time (TWT) technologies, which can provide high-quality services to more customers in more diverse environments.

Shared spectrum will play a key role in 5g construction

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved the initial commercial deployment of the citizen broadband radio service (CBRS). In addition to the United States, many European countries and regions, such as the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom, are also studying local licensing schemes for the use of shared spectrum and operator exclusive spectrum. Like the United States, European enterprises will be able to deploy their private networks more easily this year by using local access in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band. Unlike other countries, China’s spectrum resources are allocated by the government. Recently, the Chinese government has allowed three telecom operators to share 5g indoor coverage spectrum, which is the latest powerful measure to promote 5g commercial process. The Ministry of industry and information technology announced that the three enterprises will share 3300-3400 MHz frequency band for 5g indoor coverage. This is the first time that China has licensed public mobile communication frequency resources to multiple enterprises at the same time.

5g network has the characteristics of low delay and large capacity, so it is natural to consume huge spectrum resources. In the future, we will see that multi standard network spectrum fusion technology will be the key capability of 5g system. Through fine management, the realization of high, medium and low frequency spectrum sharing, so as to improve spectrum utilization, is an important means to alleviate the contradiction between spectrum supply and demand.

Enterprises deploy private networks to protect data

In 2020, another choice of wireless network is private network, that is, private network or private LTE network formed by network slicing. The concept of private network is not strange, but the introduction of CBRS and 5g makes this topic more interesting. Enterprises realize that by managing their private networks, they can retain ownership of valuable data that can be used for analysis and machine learning. For example, some well-known international automobile manufacturing companies have chosen to use 5g technology to deploy their own dedicated wireless networks in their production bases.

With the increasing deployment of Internet of things, buildings will quickly become more “intelligent” from the inside out. However, there are still challenges in IOT deployment and follow-up management, especially considering the different characteristics and requirements of some applications. IOT devices often need to install independent network, which makes the lean it department overburdened and increases the installation and management costs.

5g launches support for specific application scenarios

5g marketing in 2019 is mainly for the consumer market, but we think the first real application scenario to promote deployment is from indoor deployment. In order to realize these applications, this year, wireless operators will make full use of the frequency bands they obtain through auction or allocation to make technical decisions to maximize their return on investment.

These technical decisions will affect operators’ ability to deploy 5g network in indoor environment to deliver many applications such as Internet of things. In the Internet of things, machine to machine communication enables billions of devices to send instantaneous information to other systems, so as to ensure efficient operation. These new capabilities will bring new life to intelligent buildings and smart cities.

Infrastructure to support new needs

The high bandwidth requirements to support these technologies and their applications have become particularly important this year. CommScope believes that indoor wireless networks will be a catalyst for “new infrastructure” upgrades this year, including new power over Ethernet (POE) multilevel switches and fiber optic cabling.

The IT department responsible for the periodic upgrade will deploy cat.6a copper cables supporting up to 10 Gbps transmission rate this year to eliminate network bottlenecks and fully support the new Poe requirements. In addition, in order to support the expected growth in data volume and equipment volume, CommScope believes that enterprises will invest time and money this year to introduce new multi-level switches and Wi Fi 6 AP.

With the introduction of new technologies such as Wi Fi 6, the launch of shared spectrum, the increase of attention of private network and the continuous launch of 5g network, 2020 will be a year for consumers and enterprises to develop wireless connection. Both Wi Fi 6 and 5g will develop rapidly.
